Japanese Kirishitan (Christian) signed Tsuba

"Virgin Mary and three sailboats with bamboo leaves" as Kirishitan symbols

Solid silver border and Virgin Mary gold ring inlay

Age: Edo (江戸時代) period

Measures: 7,9 x 7,7 cm.

It was usual to embed Catholic medals in the Tsuba of Samurai Christians, but few of these examples are preserved. The present shows a rustic work, surely because that was a very risk working with Christian symbols for established goldsmiths

Japanese hand made Honoki wood collector box included

Ref.: TSUBA 145
